Elephant herd beneath baobab trees in Tarangire

Tarangire Safari Guide

Tarangire is often treated as a quick first stop, but in the dry season it is one of the most rewarding parks in northern Tanzania.

Elephants and baobabs

The Tarangire River draws large elephant herds between June and October, set against a landscape of ancient baobabs.

Beyond the big game

Tarangire is a birding stronghold with more than 500 recorded species, and the Silale swamps support excellent dry-season concentrations.

How long to stay

One night works well on short safaris; two nights allows you to explore deeper into the park away from the northern circuit traffic.
