Mountain gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Gorillas

Uganda Gorilla Trekking Guide

Uganda protects roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas, most of them in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the country's south-west.

How the trek works

You attend an early briefing, join a small group with ranger guides and trek into the forest to reach a habituated gorilla family. Time with the gorillas is strictly limited to protect them.

Permits

Permits are issued by the wildlife authority, are limited in number and should be secured well in advance. Official permit costs are set by the authorities and can change, so we always confirm the current price when quoting.

Fitness and preparation

Terrain is steep, muddy and often dense. Reasonable fitness helps, and porters are available and highly recommended.

Responsible tourism

Keep the required distance, follow ranger instructions, avoid flash photography and do not trek if you are unwell.
